Commission on Evangelism
What moves followers of Christ to share Him with unbelievers? Most Christians are aware that God’s Word commands all of us to let others know about God’s free gift of salvation. But most don’t share their faith with spiritually lost people.
Research has repeatedly proven that the vast majority of personal evangelism is done by less than 10 percent of any congregation. A second fact is even more revealing. Most of that 10 percent who share their faith have been Christians less than one year. It comes down to motivation. New believers are so excited about their new life in Christ that they tell others.
The 40 Days With Jesus program began 14 years ago when a congregation was challenged to commit themselves to a 40-day period of reading through the life of Jesus each day. The results were astounding. Just a couple of weeks into the 40 days, people were more faithful in church attendance, their prayer lives were revitalized, they were sharing their faith and inviting unbelievers to church. The pastor even noticed an increase in giving in the church.
Since then, more than 300,000 people from churches ranging in size from 50 to 3,000 have participated in and been enriched by the 40 Days With Jesus program. It can be a blessing to your church’s spiritual life too.
A fresh experience with Christ moves people to action. God’s Word is the instrument of the Holy Spirit in our lives to change us and accomplish God’s purposes in the world. Helping believers begin the disciplines of daily Bible reading and prayer is not only a factor in spiritual growth but also in motivating them to share Christ with others.
