POWER FOR PURPOSE TRANSCRIPT

Part 2: POWER

RANDY HURST:
This is my mechanic … Larry Hopkins. And this is Larry’s 1964 Corvette. Most of us guys would love to have this car!

But this 1986 Porsche is faster than this V8 Corvette … it has only four cylinders and less than half the engine capacity. How can it outperform an engine more than twice the size? Because it has help. A turbocharger enables this four cylinder engine to outperform that big V8.

God takes our limited capacities, moves us beyond our own abilities, and opens the way to fulfilling His purposes in our lives … in very practical ways. Sometimes that means motivating power. He moves us to do what we can’t naturally do. Sometimes it means moving us to forgive somebody that we aren’t capable of forgiving ourselves. There is a wonderful breadth to the empowering of the Holy Spirit in our lives to be witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ.

JEFF BRAWNER:
You have to come to that place in which you feel like "I can’t do this," before we open our heart to what God can do through us. As long as I feel like I can accomplish this in my talents or abilities, I’m in trouble, because it only goes as far as I can do.

RANDY VALIMONT:
There is a reservoir to draw from. It’s like having a well of water, that goes down a certain level - it’s a well - but when you have a deep well that goes all the way down to where that underground river is, and you have access to that underground river, no matter what the conditions are towards the surface, that well never runs dry because it’s always got pure water flowing through it.

JEFF BRAWNER:
I want a sense of need in my life. I want a sense that "you know Holy Spirit if You don’t fill me, I don’t stand a chance. I won’t be able to speak, I won’t be able to sing, I won’t be able to communicate." The person of the Holy Spirit is all about God’s gift of adequacy through every area of my life.

THOMAS TRASK:
Simply because I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit doesn’t make me better than somebody else. It’s not a license for one to become proud. It has the reverse effect. It makes one humble. It makes one acknowledge and recognize that our dependence is not in self. Our dependence is upon that power of which is not of our doing, but of the Spirit’s doing.

TIM ENLOE:
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an entrance point into the power of God. It’s a gateway into a new dimension.

RANDY HURST:
I didn’t receive until I was at the end of myself, and that’s the point. You have to reach the end of yourself and say, "I cannot do this without the Helper’s help."

TIM ENLOE:
Every one of us looks at ourselves as being spiritually unworthy. And I think it’s important for us to realize when we look at the weakness that God pours His Spirit into, every one of us is qualified to receive, because we all have weakness in our lives.

SCOTT ERICKSON:
The baptism in the Holy Spirit to me was all about the bottom line. Will I live for God in the power of the Spirit, or will I live for myself in the power of my flesh? And I had just a complete reversal that it wasn’t about me, self-serving my needs, but it was about others.

MARIA KHALEEL:
The baptism in the Holy Ghost to me made an incredible difference. God became a reality to me. I mean, He was a living presence active in my life. It was something that was undeniable. It was something that was unquestionable to me. God is real. God is alive. The Word of God became alive to me. And then He gave me a love for people and particularly for the lost. I wanted to tell all my friends at school, and I was a very shy person prior to that. And it’s not something that I have to tell myself to do. It just happens. You meet somebody in need, whether they’re in a grocery store, on an airplane, or wherever it is, and it just begins to flow out of you. It is a river of life flowing out of your innermost being. It just comes naturally at that moment.

RANDY HURST:
It’s not just about boldness to witness. For me, it was willingness. I think the baptism in the Holy Spirit breaks down barriers in every individual person’s life, that are holding them back from God’s purposes. We were all created for a purpose, but we’ve all got barriers that keep us from that purpose. And when we get filled with the Spirit, He pushes us through that barrier. And we’re not at the end of the road. But we’re on our way. And everything is intensified. Your compassion is greater, your love is greater, your joy is greater, your peace is deeper.

DANNY DUVALL:
When you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, the comfort and the power of the Spirit seems to bring the things of God to top shelf, to priority, moment by moment, day by day.

MARIA KHALEEL:
You know, someone said it this way, that when we get saved, the Holy Spirit is resident in us, but when we get baptized in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit is president in us. The baptism in the Holy Ghost is not really us getting more of the Holy Spirit; it’s really God getting more of us.

RANDY HURST:
The outpouring took place. What we need is a fresh inpouring. I need an inpouring of the Holy Spirit in my life, because I’m on a mission. It’s about obedience, and just like the first disciples, I cannot share Christ with people as is in my heart to do. I don’t have it. But He’s promised if I am clothed with His power, I can do it.

TIM ENLOE:
We will accept the power in certain realms of our lives for certain things, but don’t we need His power in our family, don’t we need His anointing in our parenting, in our relationships, in our business relationships? We see in the Book of Acts that the power of the Holy Spirit was manifested most often outside of the context of the church. They took the power home with them.

SCOTT ERICKSON:
The heart of man is still the same.

RANDY HURST:
That’s right.

SCOTT ERICKSON:
It’s weak, it’s hurting, people are lonely, they’re insecure, they have difficulties. If we ever needed help, we need it now. We need God. We need His touch.

DANNY DUVALL:
I understand why my grandfather years ago would leave his family on Saturday, get on a mule and go preach to the people in the hills of Arkansas. There’s a passion to get the gospel out. Times have changed, and I don’t ride a mule to work. But that same power from God is alive and dynamic in me only because of the work of the Holy Spirit.

ISAAC CANALES:
The first thing that I experienced when I was filled with the Holy Spirit was a wonderful bond with my Father. A loving, powerful bond with my Father and a joy in ministry. A calling from God. A belief that nothing was impossible for me in persuading people to believe in Jesus Christ. A belief that anybody I could talk to would come to know the Lord Jesus. And a joy and the eagerness to go out and do it.

RAY BERRYHILL:
When you are in situations where anger would result or fear would overtake you…because of the Spirit of God ruling and reigning in your heart, because of your access to God’s presence, because of your access to His Word… a Spirit filled person, a Spirit led person, a Spirit controlled person is more apt to sense God’s peace even if they don’t understand… and even though where natural circumstances would dictate fear, there is an abiding presence of God that controls you and lets you know that everything is going to be all right. I’m in control, I got this.

JEFF BRAWNER:
It’s not that you don’t have pressures and problems, it’s how you handle them differently than the person you are standing beside – that makes them say "well how can you, how can you be like this?" It’s because God in me is changing my nature. He’s changing my responses, and we walk through the character development of the Holy Spirit gives my life a witness beyond my words.

ISAAC CANALES:
I think it was the Holy Spirit that got me through Harvard. My experience in Pentecost—a real experience with the Holy Spirit that in spite of all the headiness and the brilliance, the articulate explanations of liberalism from my professors and then atheism from others, that I had an experience that they couldn’t take away from me. I had an experience of being baptized by the risen Lord. And they couldn’t take that away from me. And here I am, several degrees later, just as Pentecostal as when I started.

JEFF BRAWNER:
I had a great church family. I had great parents and family to grow up in, but it was the keeping power of the Holy Spirit in my life that helped me say no to the wrong things and yes to the right things.

THOMAS TRASK:
It is so wonderful, that I pray that every believer, if you haven’t received yet, it’s yours, it’s a gift, you can’t buy it, you can’t attain it, it is not out of our goodness—it’s a gift of God, given to the church of Jesus Christ for the day and hour in which we live.

RANDY HURST:
Our Lord’s promise was that we would receive power when He sent the Holy Spirit. That power is for a purpose … that we would be His effective witnesses. If you’ve received the Holy Spirit baptism, walk in that fullness and be a witness for Christ and His divine strength. If you haven’t received this wonderful experience, seek the Lord Jesus. He has promised to give you this gift and He will give you power for a purpose.
